Hatay Türkiye'nin en önemli eski yerleşim yeridir. Yapılan arkeolojik araştırmalarda milattan önce 100.000 ile 40.000 yılları arasına tarihlenen bulgulara ulaşılmıştır. Kuzeyden güneye, güneyden kuzeye giden ve doğudan gelen anayolların kavşak noktasında bulunan Hatay, tarihi boyunca kıtalar ve bölgeler arası ticarette önemli rol oynamış, yolcu ve hacı kervanları için bir konaklama yeri ve çeşitli bölgelerden gelen insanlar için bir kültür alışverişi merkezi olmuştur. Hatay çeşitli bölgelerden gelmiş binlerce insanın konakladığı, başka bölge insanlarıyla hem mal hem fikir alışverişinde bulunduğu, memleketlerine yeni bilgi ve fikirlerle döndükleri bir kültür merkezi görevi yapmış, Helenistik Dönem ve Roma İmparatorluğu dönemlerinde dünyanın sayılı uygarlık merkezlerinden biri olarak ünlenmiştir.

I do live in London and my friends wanted to take me there but despite ordering breakfast for four, we received (we strongly believe that for two) something way less than enough even 3 people. There was nothing hot to be honest. Breads, pides and everything was cold. Never ever visiting again!
