It is a historical place as well as timekeeping; Muvvakkithane is the place where timekeepers, that is, those who determine the time, determine the time of prayer with various tools and determine the time by observing. In this context, muvakkithane means "the place where the time is determined". Although the profession related to the determination of prayer times was also encountered in previous Islamic civilizations, the term muvakkithâne was not encountered before the Ottoman Empire as a special place where this study was conducted. Temporary houses are buildings no larger than one or two rooms built in the gardens of large mosques in cities. These structures were managed by the foundation of the complex they were in or the mosque to which they were adjacent, and those working there were called muvakkit, meaning the person who arranged the time and was responsible for the time.

Impressive building with a very interesting history. Since the Ottoman period a mosque, it was originally built as a Byzantine cathedral for the Empire of Trebizond, during the 13th and 14th century. It is a must visit during a visit in the city. Unfortunately, the amazing marble floor mosaic that was discovered during renovations is again covered by artificial carpets, and the walls were covered again with a dull white painting instead of showing the brick and stone texture of the original building with some historical details. Hopefully they will restore that rightly in the future.
