Villa Mercan

Excellent villa with stunning views.

We had 2 weeks here in June. The most amazing villa ever. The views are totally stunning. We seriously did not want to leave. Can't wait to come back ?

Stayed at Villa Mercan in Komurluk Kalkan late Sept 2018 Arrived to a filthy villa & zero welcome from a management host. Dishwasher full, ripped sun loungers, dirty kitchen cupboards, full ashtrays around the pool, dangerous floor to ceiling crack in bedroom window...I could continue. Sent photos immediately to Helen, the owner, who sent the cleaners in the next day. This clearly upset the local management company who made the rest of our stay very uncomfortable with their intimidating behaviour. The omnipresent pool boy refused to clean the hot tub which was lined with a thick film of greasy scum. When returning from a day out we found a couple of the doors had been unlocked, although we had locked them prior to leaving. One of the patio doors on the ground level didn't lock properly so we had to wedge a chair upon a stack of books to prevent the handle being opened from the outside. Helen, the owner was understanding to start with & gave us a complimentary meal in a local restaurant by way of an apology for the state in which we had found the villa. Sadly however her empathy was short lived. She refused to believe that the Villa Mercan management team were making us feel uncomfortable and at times scared. When she raised the issue with the manager via email following our early return to the UK his comment was, 'if they thought my behaviour was intimidating they should have seen what I did/said to the man that got in my way last week'....a bizarrely unprofessional response. We left Villa Mercan 3 days early (we should have left earlier, but kept hoping things would improve) and were offered 1 nights refund as compensation which we refused. Note the complimentary meal in the restaurant was also not charged to Helen as the restaurant had to shut part way through the meal due to a storm, which we laughed about and took with good grace given our luck at the time. This is truly the worst holiday I have ever been on. I have been to Kalkan 5 times prior to this and stayed in wonderful villas that look like the photos on the web, often better. The photos of Villa Mercan must have been taken a long time ago when it was in better condition, clean and cared for by a management team that did their job properly. It has taken me many months to write this review as I find it stressful reliving the whole experience. This review is to make others aware. Check reviews before you book, are they recent? how many are there? and always book via a reputable site rather than transferring money direct which is unfortunately what I did. I lost a lot of money on this holiday, but far worse was losing precious time off and being treated so awfully by another business owner and woman. I run a successful financial services business and pride myself on my customer service. The experience at Villa Mercan fell pitifully short of even the 1 star given here. Kalkan itself is a beautiful place & the locals are lovely. The experience at Villa Mercan is thankfully not the norm.
