1500 a. C.). En 1457 a. C. el ejército del faraón Tutmosis III libró una batalla cerca de Alepo y después tomó Karkemish.
The oldest known name of Karkemish is Kargamiş, it was populated since the Neolithic period, soon becoming an important trading center, mentioned as early as the third millennium BC. He had commercial deals with Ugarit, Mitani and Ebla, among others. Texts from Ebla cite it as an important capital of Neo-Hittite character, in the middle of the third millennium BC. However, with the growing power of Mitanni, it seems that the city could become a vassal of this empire; thus, when Egypt invades Mitanni, Pharaoh Tuthmosis I erects a stele near Karkemish to celebrate his victories (approx. 1500 BC). In 1457 a. The army of the pharaoh Tutmosis III fought a battle near Aleppo and later took Karkemish.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cerablus sınırına yakın bölgedeki üzerinde çalışmaların hala devam ettiği, antik bulguların dikkatinizi çekeceği antik kent fırsatınız olursa gezmenizi öneririm
If you have the opportunity, I recommend you to visit the ancient city near the border of Jarablus, where work is still ongoing and ancient findings will attract your attention.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I didn't find the way to the mound, though it does exist, somewhere past the cemetery. I turned back when I saw a sign wich probably says "minefield". The area is fenced off and guarded by friendly border guards. The trip was interesting, though, I took a dolmush to Nizip from Gaziantep big otogar, which left me off at the stop of Karkemish dolmush, just before Nizip. The area is empty, flat and desolate)
UPD: The site actually is closed, as I was told by the police who detained me for spying around the border. Locals said there are Italian archeologists working there, though. I give zero stars for land mines, police and military base.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Most reviewers complaining about the fact that they couldnt see the park came here before the opening to the public of this site. Karkemiš is undoubtedly a one of a kind example of well executed and sensible modern archeology: overrall the site has been excavated thouroughly but the park (pathways, panels, etc) has been built around it in a way that it blends in very naturally.
