★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We went there on the way back from Vanadoky, so didn't have much time to explore. One Kurdish man kindly opened the gate to the castle for us, and told a little bit of history.
The castle is very old, but not touristic, so it feels very nice to be one and only visitor there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic place. The castle was built in the mid 17th century by Mahmudi chieftain Sarı Süleyman, a vassal of the Ottomans. There are two primary parts to the castle: the striking upper keep buit atop a cliff faced rock that towers over the güzel su (Hoşap) River and a lower walled village. Most of these lower walls were made of mud brick but have eroded away.
Access to the castle changes from month to month. Sometimes there is a door warden, sometimes you need to get the keys from the police station up the hill, and sometimes it's closed completely due to archaeological work at the site.
