Güpgüpoğlu Konağı & Etnografya Müzesi

Kayseri Güpgüpoğlu Mansion and Ethnography Museum are among the oldest examples of civil architecture in Turkey. Its construction started in the 1400s, and it has survived until today with its period annexes. Güpgüpoğlu Mansion also serves as a museum. The ancient artifacts found in the Hunat Madrasa were moved here and are exhibited as the Ethnography Museum. Although the building has suffered serious damage in the historical process, it still contains many original traditional details. The building was started to be built with a single storey made of cut stone, then it took its final form with the second floor and annexes. It is possible to experience almost all the units in the traditional plan scheme. A 3D model of Güpgüpoğlu Mansion and Ethnography Museum is also exhibited inside the building.

Located in the center of Kayseri, this Ethnography museum is open to visitors except Mondays. Entrance fee is 12.5 TL with museum card discounted 30 TL, full card price is 60 TL for teachers and under 18 free of charge. Artifacts from the Seljuk and Ottoman periods and Kayseri culture are exhibited in it. If it falls, I recommend you go.

In the mansion, the interior wood art is very well worked, especially the kündekari technique, the harmony of color styles is in place. Even though it seems plain, the use of stone in the open exterior is a common model in Kayseri structures, and reflections of the Seljuk period appear in some areas. Transitions between rooms are possible, the entrance to the ornate bath is amazing. I wish the living pool in the courtyard had been arranged. It has become a museum where you can get an idea specific to Kayseri's ethnic culture. The museum card is valid, otherwise the 2021 price is 12 and a half TL. In addition, there is a need for a cafeteria in the museum garden. Like the presentation of local Kahveci Billur products, why not ?

The museum is open every day during working hours except Mondays. It is open from 08:30 to 17:30. Free for children under 18 and adults over 65. The entrance to the museum is 12.5 Turkish Liras. MUSEUM CARD can be used in this museum, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Culture. In its garden, there are artifacts and tombstones made with stone carvings belonging to the Seljuk period.

It is a must-see mansion, especially for those working on Turkish home architecture. As a museum, it's not bad either. Also, I was very curious how that child got to the mezzanine above the house. And don't forget to look from the ground floor to the ceiling.
