★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not as beautiful as the Kasimiye medresesi but almost at the highest point of Mardin these days (as the castle is military zone now), it still provides impressive views over Mardin and Mesopotamia and during sunset offers nice photo opportunities. Beware these kind of sites tend to close early, often round 4pm.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An old "university" building that's built on a hill that sees the whole Mardin town center.
Very nice atmosphere.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An impressive place built in year 636, to be an old astronomy school. The roof has a magnificent view over the Mesopotamian area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ WHY DO TOURISTS END UP IN MARDIN ??♂️?
Fortress is closed.
The path to it is badly marked anyway,if not at all.
Captions throughout town are lacking.
Tourist traps,instead,are plentiful.
Mosques are somewhat banal.
Whole "ancient" Mardin is banal.
The average architecture, mingling Ottomans and Arab features, pretty dull.
No Silk-Road vibes here, nor the vibes of a trading bazar like in Iran.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ideally located in the city center near the market. Parking can be a challenge. Need to climb stairs.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is one of the highest sites of Mardin. So when you go up, you can see down the Mardin whole city. You can visit the Mosque for free but the medrese entrance fee is 5TL.
