★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is a strange experience to see carvings / reliefs on the rocks surviving for thousand years. Although threre are plakats for visitors, it is a pity not to have booklets or printouts. There is no guide or something around. So before visiting Yazılıkaya read a bit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was the religions center of the Hittite Empire. The carving on the walls are still visible, as is the writings. If you come all the way to see Hattusa, then you must also visit Yazilikkaya. The entrance is free.

It surprised us a little as it was free entry. However, there is not a lot to look at just a few walls with carvings. All the same, they were worth the look and also checking out the craftsmanship of the local carvers at the souvenir shop. The view from atop the rocks was pleasing too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Hitite temple carvings from 1300 BC are still visible. The area is easy to access and restrooms and a small cafe were nearby. There is a gift shop as well. However the ancient ruins and natural setting were the main draw and worth a visit.
