Maybe there's more than half of it buried, there's a good day out, and some are covered to protect it.

Suggested instructions can be clearer, I don't know if I can step on the ruins, the path is a bit messy.

The Nereid monument, built between 420-390 BC, is located on a hillside overlooking the city. It is the first and most important of the Ionic tomb monuments in Anatolia. It has 24 columns in 4X6 style. It is thought to have been built by the king of Xanthos, Arbinas. There were 12 statues of Nereid, sea nymphs, between the columns. At the beginning of the last century, the monumental tomb was completely dismantled by the British who were doing excavations and taken to the British Museum in London. Currently, there are a few stones belonging to the foundation and an introduction plate in place.

Nereids monument. B.C. In the building dating back to 400 years, a temple plan with 4x6 columns was applied on a high and solid podium. The columns in Ionic order bear the embossed, architrave frieze. Here, various topics such as war, hunting, giving gifts are covered. Another frieze with relief is located on the cella wall, and there are two more friezes on the podium. The attack on a city whose walls are preserved on a small frieze and the capture of the city are described by sequencing the events one after another. On the big frieze under the small frieze, battle scenes that form a closed composition on each plate are lined up. There are two figures in the middle of one of the impediments. Other have a composition of figures lined up side by side and shrinking sideways between certain types of warriors, with 12 sculptures believed to have stood between columns around the monument. Mast of them are women in clothes blowing in the wind and since fish and sea animals are seen under their feet, they were identified as Nereids and the monument was named the NEREIDS MONUMENT. The monument was stolen by Charles Fellow in 1840 and smuggled into the British Museum. Please thank you for having these works.
