I thought it was the most neglected ancient city I've ever seen. I wish I had a little care. It was very nice to travel by knowing its history and to be in a place that has been the subject of books.

It is worth a visit, but the monument is in the british museum.

We came on June 18, 2021, it is a place worth seeing, but it is a pity that such a place is treated as insignificant, the church mosaics are covered, the plates are insufficient. It would be better if they show the mosaics and protect the surroundings.

I think this place on the world cultural heritage list, some parts of it started to collapse due to indifference, it was the capital of the Lycian state, and this place, which was home to many civilizations, needs more arrangement and more maintenance.

Although it is a place that should be visited historically, it is inconceivable that this place is closed when all ancient cities are open. I thought I'd take a picture near you and he shouts "What are you doing, sir?" It's like I'm stealing a grave. It's a shame to go all the way to take two photos from afar.

Xanthos was closed for visits in September 21 when I visited, but I believe it will be waiting for its visitors in all its glory with its fascinating history. Don't forget to add it to your route and places to visit as soon as possible =)

The most interesting ruins of Xanthos are located to the west of the theater. The first of these features the dead family on a high rectangular monolithic pedestal and the "harpy" reliefs, which are creatures with female bodies, bird wings and believed to carry the souls of the dead to the sky. The original blocks of the Harpy Monument are exhibited in the British Museum, BC. It is dated to the 5th century. Next to this mausoleum, there is another Lycian sarcophagus with a pedestal belonging to the 4th century. The square-shoped area to the north of the theater is the Roman era agora. In the northeast corner of the agora, a monumental tomb with an inscription written in Lycian language rises on its solid rectangular body. The inscription on the body of the monument, which is thought to have burial chamber with reliefs similar to the Harpy Monument, is the longest inscription in Lycian language found to date, and describes the adventures of the Xanthos prince named Kherei. It is possible to see many rock tombs and pedestal graves side by side in the Roman acropolis. Except for its pedestal, all of them have been moved to the British Museum. The Payava sarcophagus belonging to the 4th century is the most famous one. Another famous monument of Xanthos is the Nereids monument, which is also exhibited in the British Museum. The temple-planned monument with only the foundations left on the right side of the ramp that goes up to today's ruins is called this name because of the statues of the Nereids, the nymphs between the columns. It belongs to the 4th century. Please thank you for having these works.
