★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sultan Süleyman built the Ulu Mosque between 1442 and 1454, according to historical records and renovated it in 1501. Historic events have taken place at the Great Mosque of Cairo. As a mosque with a wooden dome, it is a member of a select group. Haram measures 22x40.90 meters, narthex measures 5.30x40.90 meters, and the minaret has one balcony. It was built using rough-cut and rubble stones on the wooden beam façade. The mosque's minaret, gateway, mihrab, and pulpit, all decorated in the style of the princely period and early Anatolian Seljuk architecture, call attention to themselves. When I visited, I was enchanted by it.
