Ulu Cami

Van Grand Mosque is located in the province of Van in Turkey, within the borders of the old city of Van. The building has been destroyed to a great extent. Its epigraph was not available. Excavations in the mosque were carried out by Oktay Aslanapa between 1970-1973. [1] As a result of the architectural examination of the mosque, it was concluded that the mosque was built between 1389 and 1400, during the reign of Kara Yusuf, the ruler of Karakoyunlu, but the architectural features support the view that the building was a Seljuk work. [2] I. Sökmen (1100-1112) or II. It is considered to have been built during the time of Sökmen (1128-1185). [2] Evliya Çelebi visited the mosque in 1655. It can be seen in the photographs dated 1913 that the mosque was in ruins.
