As the name Nimphäum reveals, the Nymphaeum Traiani is a fountain complex built by ancient Romans in Ephesus near Selcuk in the Turkish province. Ephesus was then one of the largest and most important cities of Asia Minor. There was also the Temple of Artemis (Artemision), which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Nymphaeum Traiani was according to the two-line donated inscription on the Architrav (columns with a crossbeam), by Tiberius Claudius Aristion, a wealthy citizen of the city, and his wife Iulia Lydia Laterane for the Artemis of Ephesus and Emperor Trajan as the end point of about 39 km long water pipe donated. Due to this inscription, the building was dated to the years 102 to 114 AD. The almost 12 m long and over 5 m wide pool was framed on three sides by an original 9.50 m high facade. In a large niche stood a statue of Emperor Trajan. In a row of columns were other sculptures. The water flowed under the statue of the emperor into the basin. In front of the large basin, there was also a small ladle, from which water could be taken. The Nymphaeum was rediscovered in 1957, when excavations uncovered the ancient Kuretenstrasse. Although excavation sites may look similar in some parts, it is essentially obvious to laypersons that they are highly differentiated by individual buildings and statues. It is also the feeling that prevails, due to the knowledge, to stand exactly at a place where a fountain, a temple or another institution stood. This feeling conveys a relationship with the people then, who lived and worked here.

Nymphaeum Traiani is an ancient fountain (nymphaeum) in Selcuk near Ephesus in Izmir, Turkey. As can be seen from the inscriptions of the two rows of donors on the frieze basement [1], the design of the fountain was designed by Tiberius Clauialistian and his wife Yulia Shen Dianxia Laterane for Artemis Ephesus The emperor and the Trajan emperor had a 210-meter (about the end point (hence the modern name). 39 kilometers) long water pipes. According to this inscription, the construction date can be indicated between 102 and 114 AD. The large rectangular fountain basin of 11.90 x 5.40 m is framed on three sides by a high facade originally 9.50 m. The bookshelves in the basement pass straight through on both sides, while the main side on the rear side is curved like a crank. The fact that the arches on the upper level were cancelled placed a large niche in the middle, where the statue of Emperor Trajan was placed. Statues have also been erected in other interstate alliances. Water flows into the fountain basin under the statue at the foot of the emperor. The narrow pool is located in front of the main pool, from which water can be taken.

Trajan's Fountain is one of the most beautiful monuments of Ephesus, erected at the beginning of the second century (104 g). It was a two-tiered water source, the total height of which was 12 meters. It was erected in honor of Emperor Trajan and his statue stood in the central niche of the façade above the bowl. The emperor was immortalized in sculpture, resting his foot on the world, depicted in the form of a globe. Which once again was a confirmation that already in the first century AD the ancient Romans knew what our land looks like. The support of the fountain has been preserved. The fountain had a huge bowl measuring 20x10 meters, which was surrounded by columns and statues. Among them are beautiful statues: Dionysus, Satyr, Aphrodite and members of the imperial family. Currently, the statues have been moved to the Ephesian Museum. The restoration of the fountain has not yet been completed.
