★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Merzifon'un ilk hamamı olup üzerindeki kitabe Türkçedir. Ancak arkeolog efendiler, Roma hamamı diyorlar. Merzifon'da Türk olur, Rum olur, Ermeni olur; ama Roma asla olamaz. Bu biraz uydurma bir bilgi gibi geliyor. Muhtemelen Selçuklu olabilir. Zira eski hamamın üzerinde ki camii de Selçuklulardan kalma. Yani hamamın Selçuklu olması daha makul gibi geliyor.
Merzifon çoğu Osmanli, ama biraz da ağırlıklı olarak Selçuklu şehri sayılır. Onu odun pazari idi. Odununu satamayan vatandaş elinde kalırsa odunu hamama daha ucuza satardı . Hamamin kubbesi bakımsızlık çöktü. Kitabesi de yok olmak üzere.
