We had a great time under the guidance of brother İsmail. Handmade leather materials are worth seeing. We loved the local pastry and saffron tea. You can't come to Safranbolu and not come here.

Tabakhaneyi son işleten ailenin fertlerinden biri olan ismail Beyin anlatımı ile derinin yapımını anlatıyor... Ayrıca satılan ürünlerin kalitesinde hayran kalacaksınız.... Bir bardakta kızılcık şerbeti için derim.❗
Ismail Bey, one of the members of the family that last ran the tannery, explains the production of leather with his narration... You will also be amazed by the quality of the products sold.... I say for a glass of cranberry sorbet.❗

As soon as you step inside, a place with a soul welcomes you. Although the tannery is currently only used as a museum, the equipment inside, the pictures on the wall, and various animal skins show that it is still a living museum. The owners are very friendly and interested. Recommended if you want to take a breather on the terrace and drink saffron tea. I wish the owners good luck and good luck as they are still trying to keep this important museum alive. A small humility, it would be better if the guide fee was clearly stated at the entrance. After all, even if this is a museum, it would be clear to you if there was a service fee rather than a volunteer basis, due to the fact that this is a museum. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Safranbolu is a must-see place. There is never any smell because this is now a museum. One of the owners of the museum will definitely accompany your tour and tell you everything one by one. There is no entrance fee to the museum, but you can give your heart out after the narration. Of course there is a sitting area on the top floor. Here you can taste the saffron tea, the famous vineyard soda of safranbol, the sini pastry or the höşmerim dessert of safranbolu without cheese. It was really important to learn how much effort people who work in the leather business put in and to hear the tools they work with and the warmth of the environment. I think you should definitely see it ...

It is a beautiful historical place, there are machines and goods from very old years. The guiding friend has a nice explanation about the history of the place :) Beautiful souvenir leather goods are sold, there were also food and beverage services, but we could not taste it because we did not have time.

We can say that it is the only plate factory left in Tabakhane, where leather embroidery was done in the bazaar part of Safranbolu in ancient times. Until today, the leather process in Safranbolu was carried out in this location, today this process is done in Gerede as fabrication. It is said that sandals (shoes), gun belts, etc. were made and sent to our soldiers from Safranbolu during the War of Independence, and this plate factory is preserved as it used to be, and presented to the guests as the Tabakhane Travel Museum.

Being in this old fashioned leather manufacturing factory make me understand changing the industry such fast in very short time. Today's industry can't be compared with the industry 50 years ago. This leather manufacturing factory owner family stops the production in 2017 and keeping the all machines as well as last leather products there for us to see all the steps for getting clean leather from raw. Last two generations are still alive and there to explain each step of process and also their remarkable stories. They don't charge for going inside, visiting and listening the story. So please buy few %100 leather products they are selling to support them also sit down on their balcony and try their traditional borek(pastry) and hosmerim(dessert) which you can't find anywhere in Safranbolu. We came here on our last evening in Safranbolu and it was the best ending to our trip. Although we arrived late in the evening, Ömer was more than happy to give us the tour of the museum. He was an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable host. Not only does the museum show the craftsmanship of leather throughout history, it also gives you an opportunity to learn about the impact of the leather trade on Safranbolu. The passion and effort that the family has for their business is obvious. After we toured the museum, we were lucky enough to have homemade börek, ayran, şerbet, and dessert. The whole family made us feel welcome- I would very highly recommend everyone to visit and have a chance to experience true Turkish hospitality :)
