The church official said that this is the first university in the world. If true, it's a very important place. After being neglected for a long time, it is being restored with the contributions of the Nusaybin municipality and the Syriac foundation. I was very upset when I learned that animals were tied up by making holes in the walls in the past. We must protect all holy places, regardless of religion.

We couldn't go inside and visit it because it was under renovation. We only had a chance to take a picture or two from outside. It is easily accessible and has a central location.

Umarız bir an önce kalıcı listeye geçer.
A must see place.. Mor means Saint in Syriac. According to the information given by our guide, this church, which also contains the grave of Mor Yakup, is also the oldest university. Part of the building is original and part has been restored later. As a result of the excavations, the parts that remained under the ground were brought to daylight and it was understood that it covered a very large area. It is still planned to work on it. When you go and tour, you will be impressed by the church structure, its engravings, and the building parts found as a result of excavation. It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list since 2013, together with the Zeynel Abidin Mosque right next to it. We hope it gets on the permanent list soon.

mor yakıp kilisesi tadilattan dolayı kapaliydi ancak uzaktan geldiğim için beni içeriye aldılar. içeriden fotoğraf çekme imkanım oldu. A.D 309 yılında yapılmış. dünyanın ilk üniversitesi olarak kabul görüyor. yapi, muhteşem taş işçiliği ile sapasağlam ayakta. ayasofya'dan daha eski bi yapı. içerisi sizi eksiksiz görünüşüyle,1700yil önceye ışınlıyor.
The Purple Burning Church was closed for renovations, but they let me in because I came from afar. I had the opportunity to take pictures from the inside. It was made in A.D. 309. It is recognized as the first university in the world. The structure stands firm with its magnificent stone work. It is an older building than Hagia Sophia. The interior transports you to 1700 years ago with its complete view.

Metropolitan Mor Yakup thinks that the church he prayed for in ascending Episcopal order is small and wants to build a new church. Thus, it was built in seven years between 313 and 320 years. According to the belief, an angel helped the building. The students of Episcopal Mor Yakup started to build the Nusaybin School here when they returned to Nusaybin after attending the council meetings of Ephraim Christianity. They opened the school they founded on the basis of a temple left from Zoroastrians in 326, and Efraim directed this school for 38 years. In this school, philosophy, logic, literature, geometry, astronomy, medicine, law education were given. At the same time, many writings from Greek were translated into Syriac. The characteristic of this school is that Nusaybin was an advanced educational center at that time. Until the Sassanids of Nusaybin School took Nusaybin in 363 BC. After that, the teaching staff of the school were scattered and the education in Syria continued. In the following years, the Byzantines were oppressed against the Nasturians, and Edessa School in Urfa was relocated to Nusaybin and this became the religious center of the Nasturs. The monastery continued to function until the 19th century.
