Sivas High School (Sivas Mekteb-i Sultanisi) is an educational institution that was opened to education and training in 1887. The foundation of the historical building was laid by Sirri Pasha, one of the former governors, but upon the appointment of the governor, the construction was suspended for a while. Later, Governor Melum Pashazade Memduh Pasha restarted the construction by changing the location of the foundation. Sivas High School, between 1888 and 1893 Realizing that there was a great need for such a school building at that time, Pasha made a great effort to build the school, so the construction of the school was given by a contractor with increase and decrease. A commission was established on this issue and Colonel Cemal Bey was appointed as the chairman of this commission. The members of the commission are Atıf Bey, Director of National Education, mayor Nuri Bey, a member of the administrative council Nasuhizade Burhaneddin, and chief engineer Şahin Agopyan, a member of the general administrative council. The school's plans were drawn by the chief engineer, but since there was no construction master in Sivas to carry out this plan, the master brought from Giresun with the implication of Colonel Cemalettin Bey started to work with seven gold coins a month, Abdi Kalfa, with a thousand money, laid the rock foundation with Memduh Pasha's name on the foundation of the school. The construction of the building lasted for four years, on June 19, 1894, and cost 8140 gold schools at the time. The building was opened to education at the beginning of the academic year in 1894. The opening ceremony was held by the Governor Halil Rifat Pasha. The first director of the school is Mr. Hulusi, one of the Bulgarian immigrants. Later, Tevfik Bey, who served in the Sivas National Education Directorate, was appointed as the deputy director of the Zara District Governor. The entrance door of the building, which was repaired on March 31, 1918, today facing Istasyon Street was built in September 1930. The main entrance gate facing Taşlı Sokak is open to visitors on the anniversary of the Sivas Congress (September 4, 1919). The building is two floors, the classrooms are downstairs and the mosque is inside. Two Director's rooms, the administration room and the conference hall were on the upper floor. The school was first named İdadi, then Sultani, and then Sivas High School upon Atatürk's directive. Of the two large rooms on the lower floor of the school, the left was the school's mosque, and there were kufic inscriptions on the walls. The school, which had twelve classes during the Sivas Congress, became a high school under the name of Sivas High School in the 1924-1925 academic year. The building has an important place in the history of the Republic as well as its 120-year history and original architecture. It hosted the Sivas Congress on September 4, 1919. The hall where the congress was held and Atatürk's bedroom are preserved today in their original form. In addition, when Atatürk and his wife Latife Hanım came to Sivas, they stayed in the same building and were entertained. The non-commissioned officer school, which was opened after the representative delegation of the Sivas Congress was elected and went to Ankara, served here for a short time and moved to Tokat, and the building started to serve as a high school again. During the congress, seven of the twelve classes of the school moved to Burhaneddin Efendi's mansion in Paşabostan District, and the remaining five moved to the house opposite Abidin Bey's mansion on Taşlı Street. Although it was decided to build a new building for Sivas High School in 1950 and turn the historical building into a museum, this idea was postponed to a later date after the elections that took place in the same year. After Sivas High School moved to its new campus in Taşlı Sokak in 1970-1971 academic year, the historical building serves as the Congress Museum.

A historical building welcomes you in the city center of Sivas. One of the most important points of our republic's history started in this building, Sivas Congress. Since I was in Sivas late at night, I did not have the opportunity to visit inside, but the visitors shared good things. Definitely a must see place. You don't need to go to far places to see it is located in the very center of Sivas. I definitely recommend it. There is also a parking lot just behind it.
