Selim Sultan Mosque

Historical masterpiece at the foot of Mevlana

It is located next to the Mevlana Museum. II. The construction of Sultan Selim in Konya was started in 1558 and completed in 1567. It is one of the most beautiful examples of classical Ottoman architecture in Konya. The plan resembles the Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. The space covered by the central dome was widened by a half dome in one direction. The interior of the mosque, which has two minarets with seven domes and the last communion area, was decorated with pencil work.

It is to the west of the Mevlana Complex. XVi. century is a magnificent mosque. II. It was started during Selim's time as a prince and it was opened to worship in 1567. It is a good example of the classical style. It has three doors. The crown gate is in the north. The friendly side of the main space, which is covered by a wide, spacious and high central dome, has been expanded with galleries covered with small full and semicircular domes. The crown door, mihrab and pulpit, which are among the exquisite works of stone workmanship, attract attention. Its writing and decoration are also in the classical period style. The last congregation area is in the north and has seven domes. Two elegant minarets are located at the corner. The original crown door with the inscription of the Yusuf Aga Library (1795), which was built next to the west, is inside the mosque, on the west wall. Its construction started in the west of the Mevlana Dervish Lodge when Sultan Selim II was sighted (1558-1567). The mosque is in the most beautiful works of Ottoman classical architecture in Konya. To the north, there is a seven-domed narthex, which is rested on six columns, and a sentence door with a flat arched passage with a marble jug. From the wooden door wings to the right one, "The believer in the mosque is like a fish in the water." Phrases are available. There are two minarets with a single balcony on the right and left of the last congregation place.
