Ankara, Konya ve Aksaray’ın kesiştiği noktada bulunan Tuz Gölü, Türkiye’nin tuz ihtiyacının yüzde 65’ini tek başına karşılayacak büyüklükte. Bu suda tek hücrelilerden başka canlı yaşaması mümkün olmasa da, Tuz Gölü Özel Çevre Koruma Bölgesi “Büyük Flamingo” türünün dünyadaki en önemli üreme alanlarından biri. Her yıl ortalama on bin çift flamingo, Tuz Gölü’nün ortalarında yer alan çamur adalarında kuluçkaya yatıyor ve su seviyesi ile iklim koşullarının uygun olduğu senelerde yavru sayısı 20 bini buluyormuş. Yeryüzünde bir gölde kaydedilen en yüksek flamingo yavrusu sayısı da yine Tuz Gölü’nde kaydedilmiş.

Ankara, Konya and Aksaray Salt Lake is located at the point of intersection, 65 percent of Turkey's salt in size to meet the needs alone. Although it is not possible to live in this water other than single-celled animals, the Salt Lake Special Environmental Protection Area is one of the most important breeding areas of the Flam Greater Flamingo ”species in the world. Every year, an average of ten thousand pairs of flamingos are incubating in the mud islands in the middle of the Salt Lake, and the number of fry reaches 20 thousand in the years when the water level and climatic conditions are appropriate. The highest number of flamingo puppies recorded in a lake on earth is also recorded in Salt Lake.
