Great place to get a feel of the massive undertaking that the conquest of Constantinople was.

It was okay, that’s the best way to describe it. Everything is under renovation, you cannot climb any towers or get on top of any high areas as they’re closed. The place is full of historic stuff and has amazing views here and there, but unfortunately it still needs lots of renovation before it’s open. Definitely worth the 30 liras but make sure to wear good shoes as the ground is very slippery.

Rumeli Fortress - Rumeli Hisarı in Turkish - it one of the best place in whole İstanbul. Absolutely must see in Istanbul! Rumeli Fortress is situated on European side of Bosporus. Still strong fortress but of course is a museum now. The price is 25 Turkish lira for entrance. Inside your can meet are various of interesting and rarely trees and bushes. Also there are a lots of pieces of marble columns from Early Roman Empire, part of marble fountains from Ottoman Empire. One of the most attractive part - absolutely gorgeous panorama to awesome Bosporus and Asian side. Also you can take a some food and drink and make a small picnic - lot of locals using this lovely green area and benches especially for it. There are lots of cats, they are very friendly and curious about visitors, so please take some sneaks for them. Any season is suitable for visiting Rumeli Fortress. Depending on your goal you can spend in Rumeli Fortress since 30 minutes until 2,5 hours. Strongly recommend this amazing romantic place!

One of the 1st castles that was built in 1452 in Istanbul by the ottoman empire. It was built to besiege the byzantine to pave the conquering of Istanbul. The ottomans constructed the castle on a hill and only took them 4 months to build it, which makes me wonder how they did it in their time. And the views from the top for the castle of fascinating!

A powerful ancient fortress was built by Sultan Mehmed Al Fatih as a first step with a plan to take over Constantinople and to monitor the naval movement towards it from the Black Sea. When the capital of Byzantium fell, the fortress was transformed into a customs and access road. The fortress is located at the beautiful Bebek district. It is reachable either by ferry, which departs from the pier in Eminönü which may take about 25 minutes of a pleasant trip along the Bosphorus or by buses also. Unfortunately there were a lack of information about the important parts of this mighty place and in addition to this, many parts of the castle was closed to the visitors without an explanation.
