Orhan Camii

The mosque in Yarhisar is introduced as "Sultan Orhan mosque-i sheriff" or "Gazi Hüdavendigar mosque" in foundation records. Yarhisar Castle was conquered in 1299-1300 during the reign of Osman Gazi and Holofernes, the daughter of the Byzantine Tekfur, became the wife of Nilüfer Orhan Gazi, later known as Nilüfer. It is stated that the mosque was built by Orhan Gazi (1324-1362) for his wife Nilüfer Hatun. In the north-south direction, the longitudinal rectangular planned, flat-roofed mosque consists of the sanctuary and the narthex. The narthex has a rectangular plan in the east-west direction. It is bounded on the east and west by walls built later, and on the north by eight supports. It is covered with a flat ceiling. The façades have undergone a repair that damaged the original masonry. Large sized, regular cut stones are laid on the corners of the facades, which are built with the alternating use of two bricks and two stone rows. The body and honeycomb of the minaret, as well as three rows of sawtooth frieze bricks surrounding it under the eaves. During the repair, the sawtooth frieze was sealed with concrete. The east and west walls of the last congregation are knurled. The narthex, mahfil supports, covering system, window and door frames and pulpit are wooden.
