Who are we? The Faculty of Architecture, located in OMU Fine Arts (Güzel Sanatlar) Campus in the vicinity of the city centre, has a high level and quality of accessibility, shared open spaces with natural surroundings and facilities, such as sports facilities, coastal and recreational areas, beaches and various options of cafes-restaurants.

The Faculty houses the Departments of Architecture, Interior Architecture and City and Regional Planning. While the vision of the Faculty of Architecture targets the “education for sustainability”, the main steps to reach this target are educating and guiding future architects/designers/city planners as professionals who have sensitivity to the environment and who take into consideration the varying needs and expectations of society, care about professional ethics, prioritize research, are innovative and creative and conscious about the local values and informed about international developments, have comprehensive knowledge of technology, and can work and collaborate in an interdisciplinary context.

The University is located in the City of Samsun, a coastal city that is historically very valuable, stands out in the fields of health and sports, and is rich in cultural activities. The relationship between our Faculty and the city brings us many opportunities. Our Faculty adopts an educational approach which is inclusive, egalitarian, libertarian, innovative, questioning, participatory, fair, sustainable and centered on public values.

In terms of physical facilities, the Faculty has various areas, such as libraries and laboratories, and social areas, such as a dining hall and cafeteria. Our Faculty has a collaboration agreement with the University of Sevilla, Spain. The international student rate in our Faculty is about 10 percent of the total population. According to the World University Rankings 2022, our University is ranked within the top 1200.

The Department of Architecture adopts an international and interdisciplinary approach conscious of the current environmental challenges and favours sustainable architecture and urban design in its curriculum. The Department also embraces the interrelation between theory and practice in a holistic way and pays great attention to raising awareness of urban and environmental issues via various projects in Samsun and other cities. Bringing together dynamism and experience through academic staff with various backgrounds and experience, various scientific seminars, workshops and studio activities involving professional figures and academics contribute to the academic development of students and staff. The Department has also developed strong collaborations with professional associations, organizes workshops, and participates in architecture fairs and construction surveys to emphasize the interdisciplinary approach.
