Meydan Mosque

A not too big mosque in a central location. It is historical. It is in a slightly hollow.

Koca Hasan Pasha built this mosque on Dikilitaş Street in Sivas in 1564. The last congregation place in front of it was added here in the 19th century. It was repaired by the General Directorate of Foundations in 1968. It is also known as Çukur Mosque among the people. The mosque is made of cut stone and 19.00x27.50 m. It has a rectangular plan. The upper cover was supported by a thick column with four corners. It is covered with a sloping roof. Its pulpit and mihrab are not characteristic. On a square base, there is a brick minaret with a round body and a single balcony. There is the tomb of Zileli Sheikh Şemseddin Sivasi in the courtyard of the mosque.

In it, Şemsi Sivasi Hz. A historical mosque with a tomb. It is descended by stairs. It is said that in the past, the mosque was climbed by stairs.

The Şems-i Sivasi Meydan Mosque is known in Sivas as "Şemseddin Sivasî's tomb". This mausoleum, which housed the famous mystic, scholar and poet Şemseddin Sivasî and his relatives, is located to the northwest of the Meydan Mosque, which was built in 1564 by Koca Hasan Pasha, one of the viziers of Suleiman the Magnificent. The founder of the Şemsiyye branch of the Şems-i Sivasi Halvetiyye sect is a wise person and Zileli. When he was seven years old, he went to Amasya with his father to receive the prayer of Sheikh Hacı Hızır Efendi, his father's guide, and returned to his hometown after receiving the favor of His Holiness. Later, he went to Tokat and started to study from Arakiyecizâde Şemseddin Efendi, one of the famous scholars. Then he came to Istanbul and completed his education. In terms of the sect, he received benefit from His Holiness Musühiddin Efendi from Cumapazar and Medüddin Efendi from Şirvan. Later he went to Sivas and was busy with education and guidance services. He passed away in 1006 (1597), which is a sign of the legend of "Huh felek with shams-i robbed with light". His grave is in Sivas, in the courtyard of Meydan Mosque.

In the central area. It stays in a little pit. A small mosque. In the courtyard of the mosque there is the grave sheriff of Mubarak Sivasi. It is a tremendously prosperous place. I recommend you to visit it.

One of the small and historical mosques in Sivas. In the tomb next to the mosque, there are the famous sufi Şemseddin Sivasi sarcophagus and the sarcophagi of his family members and grandchildren. It was really helpful to find signs written in today's alphabet besides mosque and tomb inscriptions.
