Tanzimat'tan beri hız kazanan batılılaşma hareketleri bu dönemde hız kazanmış, önce askeri alanında yapılan ıslahatlar ve açılan okullardan sonra eğitim ve sanat alanında da modern okulların açılmasına başlanmıştı.
İlk önce İstanbul'da bulunan okullar II. Abdülhamid'in saltanatı döneminde İstanbul dışındaki vilayetlerde de açılmıştır. Bunlardan biri de 1898 yılında yapımına başlanıp 1901 yılı Eylülünde tamamlanan ve eğitim öğretime açılan Konya Sanayi Mektebi'dir.
