Kocatepe Mosque is a landmark in Ankara. One of the world’s largest mosques, it is a fourminaret replica of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Underneath it is a western-style shopping centre called Beğendik, as well as a large car park.

One of the biggest camii in Ankara. It built in the Islamic Ottoman architecture. It is very big with many floors, and extensions. You feel peacefully and relaxed there. The sound of azan and quran is very beautiful. The bathrooms are very clean. On Friday, the camii is full during Jumaa pray.

Nothing like duplicating the design of half a millenia ago but having said that, this is a beautiful mosque. I am not so sure about the Christmas tree decorations hanging from the cupola. Nor about the tacky shops underneath. Very peaceful place to chill for a bit.

A beautiful mosque! It is in the heart of Kizilay, so if you visit Kizilay, do offer a prayer. The construction of the site is beautiful, and it is peaceful inside. Mosque has a capacity of ~500+ people to pray. There is separate space for females to offer prayer.

What an amazing mosque it was. Prayed my jummah here. Everything was so spiritual, the azaan (prayer call) inside the mosque it felt like crossing through my heart. Mosque is so big, had 3 floors to pray, means space is not an issue here even on Jummah prayers. A must visit mosque in Ankara. ?

My first time when i took my shoes off and get inside into the Mosque, few people praying, very quiet and I had permission to take some pictures and to share with you. If you go to Ankara I will recommend to see the Mosque The idea of building the Kocatepe Mosque dates back to the 1940s. On December 8, 1944, Ahmet Hamdi Akseki, the Vice-President of Turkish Religious Affairs, along with seventy-two founding members, established a society known as the "Society to Build a Mosque in Yenişehir, Ankara." In 1947 this society called for projects to be drawn up by architects, but none of the submitted projects were accepted. In 1956, through the efforts of the late Adnan Menderes, Prime Minister of the time, land was allocated for the project to build a mosque in Ankara, and a request for projects was made once again in 1957. This time thirty-six projects were evaluated, with the joint project of Vedat Dalokay and Nejat Tekelioğlu being chosen as the one to be implemented.[2]
