Located within the boundaries of Kemerkaya Town of Bolvadin District of Afyon province, there is an "underground city", where hundreds of legends are told about 200-300 meters below the settlement, which is thought to have been built in the Phrygian period, which is thought to be used as the Roman Garrison on the Eskişehir-Konya highway. It is stated in historical sources that it is a place where one of the most important trade routes in history, the King's Road and the Silk Road, intersect. Excavations were started in November 1997 by Kemerkaya Municipality with the cooperation of Afyon Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate, and in the first year of the works, the cleaning work was completed in the above structure known as Yedikapı Rock Campus. Later, unlike this campus, work started in the underground city located 200-300 meters below. The ventilation shafts and 2 floors of the underground city were exposed by lighting with a generator. In order to prevent rains and floods from filling the inside of the cave again, the ventilation chimneys were raised by building chimneys up to 1 meter above the ground level, and the excavation and cleaning works took about 3 years. When you enter the underground city from its known entrance, after 40-50 meters, you come across a well. After descending into a 6-7 meter well, it moves horizontally again. This is the known 2nd Floor. Then you come across a second well, but at the base of this well, a round stone adjusted to the diameter of the well completely prevents going to the rest of the well. I personally entered it while the excavations were in progress, and as far as I know, the excavations were terminated at this point due to the rock at the bottom of the well preventing the passage to the part known as the 3rd floor. According to the rumors, this shelter goes to the place known as Asar (Hisar) in Kemerkaya, which is located at the top of the mountain slope on which it is located. Although Asar means castle in the old language, it seems impossible, but it is possible that the shelter is connected with a castle. According to other rumors, it rises from Asar, which is also known as Tömsü Castle. Tömsü Castle is a place that is not known in official records but leaves no doubt that it was used as a castle, where there are water cisterns carved into the rocks and some structures with destroyed khoras, and where you can find finds such as arrowheads.

In other words, the way it is built and it is an extraordinary place, if it is on your way, you can go just for it, because you can visit it in 10 minutes.

It must be visited and seen, but please, let's protect our history, let's protect these beauties, I don't write on them, and updating Google maps often takes the wrong route.

Kemerkaya Underground City, one of the most beautiful places to see in Afyon, is currently idle and unknown to anyone and has become a place for drinkers. It should be brought to tourism, advertised and researched about this place, there is no explanatory information. First of all, the road should be corrected and the surrounding area should be cleaned and people should be directed here by placing signs on the roadside.

I think it should be opened and promoted in closed places with a more detailed study. While it is a place that can be very beneficial for tourism, it ends in two steps. However, it is a beautiful place that will not end if you wander for hours.
