★ ★ ★ ★ ★ külliyenin inşasına II. Selim’in Konya valiliği sırasında 18 Şâban 967’den (14 Mayıs 1560) hemen sonra başlanmış, 1563 yılında tamamlanarak hizmete açılmıştır. II. Selim’in saltanatı döneminde Sultâniye İmareti olarak belgelerde yer almış, zamanla Sultan Selim İmareti şeklinde kayıtlara geçmiş ve günümüze kadar bu adla anılmıştır. Külliye Mimar Sinan’ın eseri olarak gösterilmektedir. Ancak arşiv kayıtlarından II. Selim’in Karapınar’da bir mescid, bir han ve bir hamam inşa ettirmek için kadıdan aldığı ilâmı Kanûnî Sultan Süleyman’a gönderdiği ve Halepli Mimar Cemâleddin’in burası için görevlendirilmesini talep ettiği, sonunda külliyenin yapılması ve mimarlığına Halepli Cemâleddin’in tayin edilmesine dair hatt-ı hümâyun sâdır olduğu anlaşılmaktadır
