Karahantepe is an archeological structure where work continues in the excavation area. Although it has a very large area, only a small part of it can be seen. Not now, but 10-15 years from now, it will be a place whose name we will hear a lot. Şanlıurfa, the city of treasures...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Karahantepe is located on a hill in the Tek Tek Mountains which is 50km from Sanliurfa. It has neolithic circular structures with T shape pillars like Göbeklitepe which is also very close.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ While still in a remote hard to access part of Turkey, this site has a modern visitors center with some of the best bathrooms, and appears to just be open to visitors all the time. The site is well marked, with clear ramps where you can view all the important temple areas, and if you visit with a local archeologist you can even get up close to the artefacts. On a hill behind the current dig area are many more temples waiting to be uncovered, but what's amazing is you can see all the large T-shaped monoliths just poking slightly out of the ground, meticulous buried by an ancient civilization. Some of the temples had rituals that were likely NSFW, but amazing to wonder about the ancient fertility and circle of life rituals that must have occurred here. If you went to Giza and also saw Saquara, or went to Petra and hiked in through the back door, then don't leave Gobekli Tepe without seeing Karahan Tepe.
