Located 15 km far from Erdemli and 50 km away from Mersin. The name of the region is called Cilicia and whole south part of Anatolia called Cilicia in the past .The part starting from Antakya till Limonlu(Lamas) creek was called Cilicia Pedias means plain Cilicia and the part where the Kanlıdivane located is from Limonlu creek to Alanya Manavgat (Melas) creek called Cilicia Trakheia means mountainous/rocky Clicia. In the first century, B.C. ,Cilicia was a state of Roma but change hands between Armenians and pirates .Although Roman consul Pompeius has restated the power Byzantine captured the region.Till 6th century A.C. Cilicia suffered destructive earthquake,Armenian- Byzantine war and attacks of Arab pirates .And many Cilicia cities are abandoned . Kanlıdivane (Kanytelleis) is one of the holy city located around the Kanlıdivane sinkhole. There were 4 churches and many houses ( 60-80 but most of them down to zero level , may be because of earthquake in the 6 th century). There is a tomb of Aba who was the queen of Kanytelleis at that time. The tomb is in good condition ,structure is solid ,only triangular architectural part is collapsed on the front face. The Kanlıdivane sinkhole is quite big(142x95 m) ,and deep ( 50 m ). It was very interesting to observe ancient olive oil workshops.Olive oil has important part of the people of this region and almost each house they have their small production unit.In one house stone mill is still in good condition. 500 m down below the road there are graves again carved in a rock, in good condition. When you see the remains of the city ,you estimate how nice was the city in the past .Stone walls are showing quality of workmanship at that time and level of civilization. I recommend to see this ancient city if you are nearby.Afer restoration works have been done with the participation of the university and governorship of Mersin city ,the walkways are very good. There is a shop for water and some juices, and tented place to sit and drink .

We had a great visit here and it is definitely worth a stop! Easy to find, not too far off the main D400 coastal road. It was 10tl, or free with MuzeKart. We spent about 1 hour touring it and were alone when we went (April 2021). Had a small seating area and cafe and bathrooms, including a Western toilet. Lots of ruins to explore and a very large and interesting sinkhole. Signs in Turkish and English. Good parking lot. Main walking paths easy to navigate. Side paths rougher/more uneven.

Ancient cave city ??? Thanks to the zombie apocalypse lockdown restrictions this place was completely empty and I even got to ride my motorcycle through some of these ancient tombs ?️???? Crazy cool city built around a massive circular cave. Really interesting carvings in the cave of a few different ancient noblemen and soldiers ? I really enjoyed all the flowers blooming here. Yellow and purple flooded the side of the hill where these ancient ruins are still barely standing. These lovely flowers in bloom really made some great picturesque views and some lovely scents to a company such a fantastic day out exploring ??? I would imagine in the high season this place is paaaacked full of tourists but on this day it was just me myself and I ?
