Eski yıllarda otoban olmadığı zamanlar çakitlardan ağır vasıtalar ile birlikte çok yavaş bir şekilde Ulukışla'ya kadar gidilir idi. Ama Pozantı'dan başlayıp Niğde'de kadar devam eden otoban yapıldıktan sonra Kırkgeçit tünelleri de Torosların içinden geçecek şekilde yapılmıştır. Tüneller çok uzun olmasa da bölge için yeterli ihtiyacı karşılamaktadır.
Connecting Central Anatolia to the Mediterranean, the Taurus Mountains have always made it difficult to access important cities in the Mediterranean region such as Adana and Mersin. In the old years, when there was no highway, it was very slow to go to Ulukışla with heavy vehicles. But after the highway was built starting from Pozantı and continuing to Niğde, Kırkgeçit tunnels were built in a way that passes through the Taurus Mountains. Although the tunnels are not very long, they meet enough needs for the region.
