Historic Customs Han

As it is said, "living museum" really... The meeting of these structures with art, labor and handcraft creates a neat beauty.

One of the inns located around Gaziantep Kale, the Customs Inn is located on the plot no. 17 in Karagöz district, Gümrük Street. It is known according to the records of the Foundations that it was built by Hacı Ömer Efendi between 1873 and 1878. The rooms on the ground floor of the inn, which was built as the 'Passenger Inn', were built for the storage and barn, while the rooms on the upper floor were built for the passengers to stay. It has been used as an inn, shop and warehouse until today. Customs inn has the characteristics of a single courtyard, two-storey inn architecture within the traditional Ottoman inn architecture. As one of the 18 inns in Gaziantep, Gümrük Han is located in the city, and it also includes stables as well as passenger accommodation. Due to the location of the building in the old city center, it is used as a center preferred by all people who come for touristic and business trips. The restoration of the inn started in April 2011 and was completed in a short period of eight months and was completed in December. The historical inn served as the "Living Museum" as the production and sales center of handicrafts that were on the verge of disappearing. Silversmithing, rosary making, painter rug maker, aba weaving, mosaic, glassblowing, copper processing, clogs, marbling, old bridal salon, Antep work, handicraft sales, wood carving, kutnu weaving, rug making and mother-of-pearl professions in Gümrük Han is kept alive.

A small and charming inn in the vicinity of the castle is described as a "living museum". It has two floors, cafes and shops selling souvenirs.
