Camiyi yaptıran kişinin konuşurken lafı ağzında gevelediği için ''hemhüm'' dendiği ile Cami hocasının hızlıca namaz kıldırması ve kıldırırken ne okuduğu zor anlaşılmasından dolayı bu ismin verildiği rivayetler arasındadır.
