Gumuslu Mosque

Its ancestors heirloom interior decoration, which I performed one morning prayer and had a very naive and humble imam master, is a historical mosque in the city center of Amasya.

Despite the fires and earthquakes it has undergone, this beautiful mosque, which has survived to the present day either by rebuilding or repaired, is on a small elevation opposite the Government Bridge, overlooking Yavuz Selim Square and making itself more imposing. The first construction date of the mosque is 1326, and it was Taceddin Mahmud Çelebi. This mosque, which we know to have a wooden roof, was destroyed in the earthquake in 1419. The mosque was built for the second time in 1491, this time by Defterdar Mahmut Bey. Şemseddin Pasha had the mosque repaired severely damaged by the fire in 1612. The mosque was repaired once again in 1688. Gümüşlüzade İbrahim Bey had this repair, which gave the mosque its current name, and it was called Gümüşlü Mosque after this time. However, this was not the last major restoration of the mosque, and the mosque, which had another fire in 1721, was repaired by Mustafa Ağa, the trustee of the foundation. The square-planned mosque was built entirely of cut stone, and a final congregation place was added to its northern facade in 1903. This section, on which the triangular pediment roof is supported by wooden posts, creates a five-eyed structure by connecting the wooden posts to each other and to the body wall with arches. In the northeast corner of the mosque, there is a cylindrical minaret made of bricks on its square shaped pedestal made of cut stone. The interior is covered with an octagonal dome with two small windows on each side. The most striking feature of the interior is the hand-made decorations adorning it. These decorations were made in 1960.
