I went here with family friends and had an amazing experience. We ranged in age from mature to 20-somethings and everyone had a blast. The sheer number of churches and dwellings carved into the Mountainside at staggering. Visiting this open-air Museum gives you just a glimpse of what's hidden in these valleys.

Something very bad about this place is that the frescos are not being protected as they should from the weather, etc. Still, it's forbidden to take pictures. Not because flashes or anything, I guess they don't want the world to see how most of these frescos were destroyed. I took a bunch of pictures anyway, because despite the ignorance it is a fantastic place, full of history.

We found this to be very interesting, especially the frescos in the monasteries. Amazing works of art. The cost of entry was 100 TL and than an additional 30 TL to see the black church, make sure to see this. The only complaint is that they do not allow picture taking in some of the location. It's to bad as the images you do not want to forget as they pieces of historic art. great place to visit. 3btraveler

If you come to Cappadocia you absolutely must come to this unique museum. It is fascinating and so rich in history! Don't skimp out on the Dark Church either. It is an extra 30Lira but completely worth it to see how intact the frescos are.

A great historical spot, but sad that there were so many people. I paid for the audio guide and found it didn’t really provide all that much interesting info. The fantastic history and beautiful geography would be worthy of a 5 star rating, but the crowds really took away from the experience. FYI, the Dark Church requires an extra entrance fee.

A must visit when here in Cappadocia. This place is full of ancient small churches. Recommended to buy the audio guide or have a tour guide with you to explain the history of the place. Expect to spend about 1.5 hrs here. FYI if you're taking coach bus, there are alot more stores and souvenirs at the area where the bus coaches wait.

Best open air museum in the area (there are more) as per local guide. Staff at ticket is friendly. There is a nice cafe and shop just outside. We hired a local guide over there who gave us a good tour. Really impressive structures and carvings and frescoes. Must visit
