Eser üzerinde inşa kitabesi yoktur fakat 1728 ve 1871 yılına ait onarım kitabeleri bulunmaktadır. Located in the south-west corner of the Double Madrasah in the Mimarsinan Park, this fountain was built in the 17th century. There is no inscription on the work but there are repair inscriptions of 1728 and 1871.

Fakat Gevher Nesibe Medresesi ile Avgunlu Medresesi ve Türbesi 02 benzerliklerinden dolayı 13. yüzyılda inşa edildiği tahmin edilmektedir. “Avgun” veya “abgın” kelimeleri Kayseri çevresinde su kaynağı anlamına gelmektedir. Eskiden Kayseri’de yüksek seviyede olan yeraltı suyunun yapıya ait türbenin alt katında kaynak oluşturması sebebiyle medrese bu ismi almıştır.
