Gazi Alemdar Museum

It's a very beautiful place.. if you want a trip worth history, don't pass by without stopping by here..

It was designed as a model of the Alemdar Ship, which was the only unarmed rescue ship in the War of Independence. Entry inside is free. In addition, it was empty in terms of crowds. Zonguldak is a must see place when you come to Eregli.

You should visit the museum of the ship Alemdar, the hero of the War of Independence at sea. But unfortunately the ship was not shown the respect we expected. The ship is in a very dirty state, especially there are bird droppings everywhere. Apart from this, I did not come across any employee, everyone travels on their own, there is no place to show direction. Admission is free, closed at noon.

The French, who bombarded the coastal areas of the city, including the hospital, from the sea, were exposed to a counter-attack as a result of the secret floating of the Alemdar ship. Some French commanders and soldiers, who were taken prisoner by the people of Karadeniz Ereğli on 18 June 1921, had to sign an agreement with the Republic of Turkey, which had not yet been established. This agreement was Turkey's first international agreement in the War of Independence and is an indication of the acceptance of the National Salvation Government. This success, which was achieved as a result of the struggle of the people of Karadeniz Ereğli during the War of Independence, formed the basis of the victories won by the Republic of Turkey. In this way, the first and only naval battle of the War of Independence took place in Black Sea Ereğli. In order to keep this historical event alive, a one-to-one example of the Gazi Alemdar Ship was made and opened as a museum on 08.08.2008.

Alemdar museum with a little explanation… While the occupying states were sharing the Ottoman lands among themselves, the French came to Karadeniz Ereğli but could not occupy them. In the place they wanted to occupy, they were on the warship called “Alemdar”, which the patriot smuggled out of Istanbul during the War of Independence. And this ship ran aground and was not handed over to the French. The ship “Alemdar” was rebuilt in accordance with its original form on August 8, 2008, they put it into service free of charge as a museum in Zonguldak Karadeniz Ereğli.
