Emir Omer Mescidi

A historical place

It is a small mosque with a tomb of Emir Ömer Bey, at the entrance of the fortification gate, on the northern side of the old Malatya castle, in the old recreation area called "Çatlak". This masjid, built with cut stone, is a typical example of Ottoman architecture with its entrance door embroidery. The aforementioned Emir Ömer Melik is shown as a member of the Sunullah family. It is estimated that this mosque, also called Taş Mescid, was built by Emirü'l-Azam Celaleddin Ömer from the Melik Sunullah family, who took Malatya from the Eretnas in 1360. According to the inscription on the entrance facade, it was built in 1563 by Ömer Bey, with the title Emirü'l-Azam. But this inscription is a repair inscription. The repair inscription dated 1563-1564 found on the northern façade shows that it was repaired by Miralay Hüsrev Bey. The rectangular masjid was built of smooth cut stone and rough-hewn stone, and its cover is in the form of a flat roof. There is a grave to the west of the entrance.
