06.12.2012 Tarih ve 28489 sayılı Resmi gazete de yayımlanan 6360 sayılı kanunun 1. Maddesi kapsamında Hatay İli’nin bütün sınırlarını bünyesine alan Hatay büyük şehir Belediyesi kurulmuştur.Aynı yasanın ilçe kurulması ve sınırlarının belirlenmesi başlığı altında bulunan 2. maddesinin (7) bendinde Defne İlçesi ve Defne Belediyesi kurulmuştur.
Before the Law on the Establishment of Metropolitan and Twenty-Seven Districts in 63 Provinces No 6360 and Amendments in Certain Laws and Decree Laws, it is a province consisting of 12 districts, 76 municipalities, 362 villages and other settlements. After the law numbered 6360, the metropolitan municipality and local administration units consisting of 15 districts were established; provincial borders coincided with metropolitan municipal borders.
Within the scope of Article 1 of the Law No. 6360 published in the Official Gazette dated 06.12.2012 and numbered 28489, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, which incorporates all the borders of Hatay Province, was established. District and Defne Municipality were established.
