I'm gonna start with the cliche "If I could give a minus rating" comment. It is also going to be a long one so that you can get the picture right and use this as a reference for your current and future house hunt here. I have to take responsibility on my part and admit that we did the mistake of going on our own and not using the company's housing office's assistance. This part's definitely on me 'cause I thought "I speak the language and I'll be articulate and they'll sure understand what we are looking for and we will be treated right without being lied to or end up getting betrayed". Also, this review is especially for expats like us; STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. After months of research for a rental, we found this place, basically due to its square footage. Then, the real estate agent presented himself as this honest, "different" than the rest of the herd kinda agent. That in itself should've been a huge red flag but I believed in him. "Oh, this is a great house. The landlord is a very decent, amicable guy. This place is insulated unequivocally, you'll pay a dime for heating. There is no soundproofing like this house's. The house will be rented to you turn key, you won't have to mess with anything. You will not experience any problems whatsoever as far as worrying about having to move out and can live here even past your lease date." Well, it all turned out to be lies. We rented this place in September, 2019 and the house's never ending issues got halfway fixed by the end of November!!! We are freezing and can't use many rooms due to cold, the house smells like sewage, the toilet flushes are problematic where I needed to fix it myself after 5 visits from the "maintenance" personnel. And although we are the top floor, someone's kid's loud running noise covers the entire house! Other houses' cooking smells and people's conversations that we hear from the bathrooms are unbelievably disturbing. The site management is constantly wanting more "monthly fees", the house's design is the stupidest we've ever seen in our lives (First we thought it was interesting/ different. Once we started getting the light fixtures hanged, put up curtains, hook washers etc. we were livid. The top floors like ours have these gigantic glass ceilings in the main living area which costs an arm and a leg to cover and is letting all the cold now and will let in all the heat during the summertime. Which unrealistic, incompetent mind builds a house like this in a country where even the simple houses cannot be built right??) It is a bottomless money pit. We're paying over 2500 liras just for "maintenance" fees and heating yet we are walking around with heavy jackets in our house!! And now, the house being put on the market, our text message being left unanswered for an explanation and the aggravation as well as the disappointment we are experiencing is beyond unfair! Do we expect a solution? Of course not. Just like almost every other landlord and so called real estate agent in an uncivilized country, these people only care about the money they extort from people like us. The mentality when it comes to housing is strictly one sided. Hypocrisy is the word and as a joke they want you to be decent/honest. They complain about how local tenants are unreliable and they fall short paying their rents or fees etc. We can say that they do deserve each other and honest, hard working, paying expats are too much for them. There's also something called Karma! Shame on all these people who treat the ones like us this poorly and lie without blinking! We've been nothing but patient and respectful to everyone yet we ended up being deeply concerned about having to move, again, after spending an incredible amount of money to make this house somewhat livable. Unless you've got money to throw away as an investor, go buy somewhere else. If you're an expat like us go to professionally built and managed places like Park Mosaic and find decent, honest agents and landlords through your company's housing dept. so that you won't have to go through hell and live on eggshells.
