İlçe adını Oğuz Kayı Beyi Ertuğrul Gazi’nin yakın arkadaşı Şeyh Edebali’ nin diğer adı olan Balı-Şeyh’ten almıştır. Yerleşim tarihi 1230 -1258 yılları arasındadır. İlçede 13.yy. Selçuklu dönemine ait caminin bulunması bu tarihi doğrulamaktadır.

NAME AND HISTORY OF THE DISTRICT
The name of the district was taken from Honey-Sheikh, another name of Sheikh Edebali, a close friend of Oguz Kayi Bey Ertugrul Gazi. The settlement date is between 1230 and 1258. 13th century in the district. The presence of a mosque from the Seljuk period confirms this date.
