In 2015, I had the chance to go to Harput Castle and visit the mosque, Balak Gazi Monument and Tombs there. I recommend everyone to come, visit and see.

Mevcut tarihi kaynaklara göre Harput'un en eski sakinleri M.Ö. 2000 yıllarından itibaren Doğu Anadolu'ya yerleşen Hurrilerdir. Hurrilerden sonra bölgenin, Hitit hakimiyeti altına girdiğini görmekteyiz. Çok uzun sürmeyen Hitit hakimiyetinden sonra M.Ö. 9. Asırdan itibaren Doğu Anadolu'da devlet kuran Urartular Harput'ta uzun süre hüküm sürmüştür. Bugün bile tarihi heybetiyle ayakta duran Harput Kalesi Urartu devrinin izlerini taşımaktadır. Kale'de kaya içine oyulmuş merdivenler, tünel ve hücrelerle su yolu bulunduğu tespit edilmiştir. M.Ö. 9. Asırdan beri bu kalesiyle müstahkem mevkii olarak bilinen Harput, en az 4000 yıllık bir maziye sahip bulunmaktadır.
HARPUT
According to existing historical sources, the oldest inhabitants of Harput date back to BC. They are the Hurrians who settled in Eastern Anatolia since 2000. We see that the region came under Hittite rule after the Hurrians. After the Hittite domination, which did not last long, BC. The Urartians, who established a state in Eastern Anatolia from the 9th century, ruled in Harput for a long time. Even today, Harput Castle, standing with its historical majesty, bears the traces of the Urartian period. It has been determined that there are stairs, tunnels and cells and a waterway carved into the rock in Kale. B.C. Known as a fortified place with this castle since the 9th century, Harput has a past of at least 4000 years.
