Anıt yapımına 1985 yılında başlanmış ve 1989 yılında bitirilmiştir. 42 metre yüksekliğinde olan anıt alanı resmi olarak 230 dönümdür. Anıt sütunları arasındaki boşluk Türklerin Anadolu’ya geçiş kapısını, sütunlar ise Anadolu’nun Kapısını ifade etmektedir. It was built by the Ministry of Culture and the General Directorate of Fine Arts. The construction of the monument started in 1985 and was finished in 1989. The monumental area, which is 42 meters high, is officially 230 acres. The gap between the monument columns refers to the gate of Turks to Anatolia, and the columns are the Gate of Anatolia.

The gate might be closed to protect it from vandalizing. It takes 20 minutes walk from city center to get there. Also there is a perfect mountain view opposite to the site.
