★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Superb place to visit. Obviously Mt Nemrut is impossible to beat, but if it did not exist, Arsameia would be a massive tourist attraction.
As it is, you actually get to visit this ancient city and have it to yourself, unless you are unlucky to coincide with a tour group.
Beautiful sculptures alongside walls of carved historical texts make this a superb place to visit. Sit back and imagine the busy life of this city a few thousand years ago.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Arsameia, or the place where cultures meet. On the road from Nemrut to Severan Bridge, there's this little but amazing place located on the top of a hill. It contains a sculpture representing 2 people from two different cultures (Commagene and Persian) shaking hands, a deep tunnel of more then 30 meters, which you can enter, a stela with different inscriptions and some ruins. Is well worth a visit since is completely free and quite spectacular. There's parking nearby (also free) and a toilet (paid) and some shop selling tea and water.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very good addition to a visit to nemrut. It was free when I went. A couple of excellent bits of relief sculpture, a huge Greek inscription, cave, very long atmospheric tunnel and a great view from the top down onto the nearby castle ruins.
