About Ankara Esenboga Airport

Aviation is a highly regulated industry due to the global character of the business. In Turkey, the precautions to be taken at airports against COVID-19 are defined in the “Airports Pandemic Precautions and Certification Circular”, issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM). We have implemented these precautions fully at our airport.

As TAV Airports, our global footprint reaches 100 airports in 30 countries. Through this know-how, we have implemented precautions that go beyond legal requirements. Our staff is trained regarding the new regulations and code of conduct.

They don't have wifi for people without a Turkish simcard. This is just reckless. Many people have emergency situations and need to call loved ones. I couldn't believe that an airport had no wifi and so I asked a security guard and a restaurant employee to ask if there was ANY possible way to get wifi (I don't care the price). They both told me it was impossible and were very rude about it. I can't find the logic behind not allowing your customers any wifi, paid or free.

It was just a worse airport among the airports I used in a past few years. You know, Turkey is not a small country. It is a big country in the region and the airport is one of the hubs. So you imagine the airport is nice and comfortable but it was not. First, many of their staff do not speak English. I was requested to wait at the entrance for the transit zone but I did not understand the reason and how long I should wait. Once they allow people to enter the transit zone, they announced in Turkish and if there were no people who understand the language, no one knew we could enter. Second, although I understand that we needed to wait at the entrance of the transit though probably because of controlling the number of the people who wait at the gates, I needed to wait about an hour. When I moved to the floor of the gates, there were only few people. I was thinking maybe they are controlling the crowds which is good. But once the sun rises, more and more people came to the floor and it was really a lot. At that time I did not understand why I needed to wait for an hour. Third, they do not allow people to go entire floor; they blocked at the middle of the floor. The problem of this was, while another area had more cafes, shops and restaurants, the area I stayed had only 1 duty free shop and 1 café. The café was overcrowded and just serving pastries and beverages. I could not have any hot meals and because it was too much people, I hesitated to use the service. Additionally, the internet sucks. Free wifi is only for those people who have active phone number. If you do not have one for some reasons, you are not able to use the internet. If you have it, you can use the internet for 2 hours for free. Once I connected, I used the internet for 10-15 minutes. After that, I wanted to save rest of the hour. But somehow, I could not save the time. So I could use the internet only for one time, 10-15 minutes which was very disappointing. Many people who were waiting for their flight seems bored; no shopping, no eating, and no internet. Literally nothing to do but just sit down and wait. Lastly, although the airport itself was clean, some small things were not clean such as toilets and vending machines. I really want them to clean the washroom frequently. Also, I understand the country is facing a challenge on their currency but they should use their currency in the airport. I did not get that they are using euro (indicating prices in euro) at the airport. Overall, it was just so disappointing. If you do not expect anything from this airport, you will enjoy.

Not big as Istanbul Airport, but spacey and cozy. Just to much checking but if it's necessary for safety then very well.

Its a good airport, 1 to 1:30 hours to get to the waiting lobby for your plane. 2 security checks in addition to checking counters. Overall a nice place and easy to navigate but shops are alot expensive! The water which can be bought for 1.5 to 2 TL outside is being sold at 24TL inside the airport which is preposterous! But otherwise a nice airport.

Ankara Esenboga Airport (ESB) is nice airport not much crowded but away from the main city. Not much means of public transportation like metro available. You need to ride texi to reach into the city. Its so quiet and calm. Haven’t found much facilities compare to Istanbul airport but still so neat and clean and staff is very friendly and helpful.

As the airport of the capital, it looks like a small airport. But the important thing is that the airport is of good quality. Flight delays are low at this airport, and Pegasus and Turkish Airlines have the most planes and flights to this airport.

It's far, big and to reach the city takes time unless you pay a hefty price for taxi service. Bring your sport shoes with you and walking is an unavoidable excersize to reach the exit of the main terminal. Not kidding.

A neat and nice airport overall. There are plenty of shops around in case you need something or just to wait around before the check-in. Although you should expect to spend extra money as things in the airport would be more pricey compared to the ones you found in the city but I guess it's reasonable. There are a few ways you could go to this airport by public transport: one BelkoAir bus that departs from Kızılay/Güvenpark and the other BelkoAir bus that departs from the city's bus station. Although I believe that they stop in multiple stops in the city, it appeared that they don't stop once they are out of the city. So, if you want to catch those buses, make sure that you catch them while it's still in the city. It is possible to go to the airport by city bus but I can testify to you that you might need to walk your way to the airport at least 2KM from the nearest bus stop.
