A quiet village in nature

The village is surrounded by many historical districts. Didime is connected to the municipality.

The name of Akköy was given in this way because the exterior of every house in the village was painted white without exception. Until 1922, a Greek population of 4,000 lived in the village. With the support of the Germans who came to Miletus for archaeological excavations in the 1870s, the Greeks first built a school and then a church called Ayiyos Georgiya. With strawberries and tobacco fields, the wineries, the old Greek houses with featured with the Temple of Apollo, and Miletus Akkoy stationed in the middle, has the largest library in the village of present-day Turkey. There is also a periodic culture-art-literature magazine, which is centered in this library and prepared under the name of the village and originating from our country. Amateur and professional ornithologists, ie those working in the science branch, which is one of the sub-branches of zoology that examines birds, know all the terrain from the Bafa Lake to the Head, where the Menderes River flows into the Aegean Sea. They constantly scan the air with cameras that detect cameras and long zooms, bags and binoculars on their backs. Tobacco farming, which requires a very tiring workmanship, is Akköy's principal agriculture. Strawberry cultivation was added to this a while ago. In addition to strawberries, a wide variety of fruits and vegetables are also grown in fertile Akköy soil. Most of these products can be bought freshly in summer, especially in the market stalls in Mavişehir. As in almost all Aegean region, fig cultivation is one of the traditional agricultural elements of Akköy. Yellow and black lop type figs, especially Bursa Karası, reach all of Didim from the trees of Akköy. Another production of Akköy from the past is the fertile grapes in the vineyards. Akköy is one of the symbols of the Aegean with its natural beauties and its texture that manages to stay natural even though the highway that transports people to Didim passes through it.
