One of the most impressive and excellently preserved ancient buildings in Turkey and possibly in the world from Roman times dating back to 2nd century AD. Commissioned by Hadrian, the temple is dedicated to two deities, ZEUS; the sky and thunder god of Olympians, and CYBELE; the mother goddess of civilizations in Anatolia. While the basement of the building is reserved for worshipping to Cybele, the section above the ground is for Zeus. The battle scenes on the walls are depicted by Turks while invading Anatolia in 13th century. Not only for the temple itself but for many other impressive remains including the first stock exchange/bourse, the ancient Roman city of Aizanoi must be visited within the present town of Çavdarhisar in Kütahya, Turkey. You will never regret it...

Aizanoi Ancient City Temple of Zeus | Kutahya Aizanoi Ancient City, located in the Cavdarhisar district of Kütahya, has one of the world's best preserved Zeus temples. The Temple of Zeus, located on a hill, was the main temple of the city. The construction of this temple was started in the 2nd century AD during the reign of Emperor Hadrian. The most important feature of this temple is that it is another place covered with vaults. This is an unusual application in Anatolia during the Roman period, and so on has not yet been encountered. The temple was built on the pseudodipteros plan with 8 Ionic columns on the sides and 15 on the sides. While Zeus was worshiped in the above-ground part of the temple dedicated to two gods, the underground room belonged to the cult of the Anatolian goddess, Kibele. Excavations carried out around the temple belonging to the Roman period also reveal the settlement layers belonging to the Early Bronze Age.

How travellers to get to The Aizanoi? 1-Take a bus to Kütahya 2-Get off the Kütahya coach terminal 3-Enter the terminal and keep moving into the right side. 4-You will be seeing a backery in the end of the corirdor. 5-Enter the door and there are mini buses. Ask "antik kent "for a driver.or show the photo of the semple. He marks to the rigt bus. 6-Also They may take you to the ticket office or you directly go to the minibus and take a seat in it. You pay the driver for the ticket when arriving the main road which goes to the temple. How to return to Kütahya from Aizanoi? 1-across the main road 2-stop the white minibus and ask does the bus go to the coach terminal or not. 3-you can also get off into the city center. But My recommendation is tell the driver you will get off close to the kütayha tile center where is extremely big and has so many tiles to buy. Because tiles dont exist in the city center. Notice that the museum is closed on Mondays. Hope these will help you. One of strongest temples in the world. I really enjoyed visiting the Aizanoi. It is like the temple was built newly and keeps its reputation. Antique theater is in misarable situation. Entrance fee is just 7 turkish lira $1.25usd or 1.1€. Free WC is available close to the temple entrance. There is no grocery store in the town, so you should buy it on the main road from a bufet. The temple has no visitors so go there and let your soul to the amazing atmosphere.

It is not bad, but we saw much more better antik centers in Turkey. The entry fee 2020 was low, but there was no working toilet / bathroom, just a scarry building out of the area. But they are making new gate, probably with toilets. The theatre Is not in the same area. There Is also hamam with some mosaic, but it was impossible to find it. There are no signs. We didn't find also signs to the theatre. But it loked that they are trying to rebuild the theatre now, because it was very destroyed. The area is bad described - around and inside too.

One of the most well preserved Zeus temples in the world! The temple has a big room under the ground which is also a small museum. Since Aizanoi is still unpopular, this city has remained unharmed through the ages! Before it becomes a major attraction, you must go and see this unique wonder!

Beautiful structure in a beautiful state of preservation. Without a doubt the highlight of Aizanoi. The temple site is quiet and it was special to be able to access the massive vaulted chamber hidden below the temple. Keep an eye out for the rough etchings of mounted cavalry on the building. These were left by the Çavdarids, a Turkic tribe who used the classical temple as a fortress.
