Adamkayalar (Men of rock)

The historical art is of course amazing, yet it is very difficult to find, you should follow the red arrows but they're very hard to detect. The climb down is very steep so I don't recommend going there with a skirt and sandals (like I did) if you really like an adventure, it is worth the sight.

Ancient Roman reliefs, rock carved figures represent the people from different classes of society. It's thought to be a memorial of thier dead ancestors (the valley is incredibly silent and peaceful). It is not easy to climb down and back, shoes are important, hands must be empty, should better be wearing comfortable clothes.

Marvelous, mystic and very ancient place. Quite hard to rich: you must almost climb down the rock. Hands must be empty. There's no touristic facilities around.

Fantastic rock carvings not seen elsewhere. Really tough to follow the route down, and not for the faint of heart. Wear shoes with good grip and don't go if the rocks are wet.

This is the holy place and graves are carved in the rock with sculpture figures also carved on the rock .When you arrive there first you meet the ancient ruins of the holy places and then if you follow arrows on the rocks ,you may reach to see incredible graves on the rock . Please be aware of the fact that if you don’t have tracking or climbing shoes,if you don’t remember when you were in a gym last time , do not try this parkour.There were some deadly accidents all the time .I had beach slippers so I decided to stop on the half way ,it seemed to risky . Amazing place. Very hard to get there, you need proper gear ready for climbing and walking on all four, but worth each step visiting. It's a bit complicated so better have someone who knows exactly where the place is.

Cast in stone ??? Awesome men of rock carved straight out of a shear cliff face. The hike down to this ancient wonder is truly a death trap ??? There's a staircase carved out of the rock which is definitely not OSHA approved and even me is quite a tall guy had some serious difficulty making my way down buuuuuut the juice was worth the squeeze ?? Awesome spot to watch and sunset. Truly beautiful ???

Adamkayalar was not on the day's itinerary. In fact, we had not heard about this historical site at an interesting place near Kizkalesi, at the bottom of a canyon. But we were so disgusted with the hotel we stayed in the previous night, a four-star Oxo Hotel, that we were desperate to change the scenery and the mood. And by golly, we found more than what we were looking for. We had read the reviews that you should not wander off to this place with your beach slippers, and need to carry a lot of water, etc. but the challenge is not only that. It is the path that takes you down, or there lack of. It is literally rock climbing down and then rock climbing back up. My hero is Katya, who descended, inspected the men of rock, a burial site, and then ascended free of cuts or aches. Katya did veni, vidi, vici. I chickened out. If you are not well equipped and not in good shape, don't even think about it. Skip it. I'm sure it is not a very frequented place but still the site is full of trash and litter which is an eyesore. Just before we left, a Turkish family stopped by the site, cut their watermelon, downed the slices with thunder, and left the slices out in the open, shamelessly, openly out in front of our eyes. It is this kind of attitude which is putting us Turks to shame and also littering these beautiful ancient historical sites.
